Auto Zoom placed a zoom on each burst of clicks. Drag a block to move it, or aim one by hand.
The captions came from the narration, transcribed on the Mac. Words light up as they're spoken.
An “um” was cut by deleting it from the transcript. The marker puts it back in one click.
The wallpaper, padding, and shadow are one look, saved for every new recording.

One renderer draws the preview and the export, so what you see while editing is exactly the file you get. Change anything Shotnix did for you, or keep it and export.
Auto zoom
Auto Zoom gives every burst of clicks its own zoom, timed so the view arrives before you click. Zooms are blocks on the timeline: drag one to move it, or switch to Aim by hand and frame anything the cursor isn't pointing at.
Captions and edit by text
Shotnix transcribes your narration on your Mac, with every word timed. Captions light up as you speak, and deleting a word from the transcript cuts it from the video. Remove every um, or shorten long pauses, in one click.
Vertical video
Switch a landscape recording to 9:16, 4:5, or 1:1 and it fills the frame, panning after your cursor instead of shrinking into a letterbox. Captions and your camera stay put. Export a wide version and a vertical one from the same edit.
Circle, rounded, wide, or cutout. Blur or remove what's behind you, and switch to full camera or side by side anywhere on the timeline.
Enhance voice removes background noise and hum. Voice, computer sound, and music get their own levels, music dips under your voice, and exports land at an even loudness.
Four smoothing levels that still land exactly on every click, any size from 0.6× to 4×, motion blur, click effects, and optional click sounds.
Split with S, drag clips to reorder, and give any range its own speed (0.5× to 16×) or mute. Speed Up Idle skips the waiting, dissolves smooth the cuts, and several recordings join into one video.
Wallpapers, gradients, or your own image, with padding, rounded corners, and shadow. Add text, arrows, spotlights, your logo, blur that stays on through zooms, and intro and outro title cards.
720p to 4K, 24 to 60 fps, H.264 or HEVC, hardware-encoded, with the exact size shown first. Exports run in the background in a queue, and subtitles save as .srt or WebVTT.

What's new
Shotnix v0.28.0-beta turns the computer sound down while you talk. When your voice and your Mac's sound are on separate tracks, it dips under your voice by itself and comes back in the pauses, and a new lane on the timeline lets you drag any dip. A clip or any part of the video can also have its own Voice and Computer sound levels.

Yes. Shotnix is 100% free and open source under the MIT license. There's no subscription, no account, no time limit, and no watermark on your screenshots or videos.
Apple silicon Macs (M1 or later) with macOS 13 Ventura or newer. The official download doesn't run on Intel Macs.
No. No frame of your video is watermarked. The export sheet has an optional 2-second "Made with Shotnix" end card that plays after your video; it's off unless you switch it on.
Yes, on macOS 13 and later, with no extra audio driver. Your voice and your Mac's sound are kept as separate tracks, so you can balance them after recording.
Yes. Turn on the camera in the recording bar. The camera is saved as its own layer, so you choose its shape, size, background, and position after recording.
Yes. Pause and resume from the HUD, the menu, or a shortcut you assign; paused time is left out of the video. Press ⌃⌘Esc to stop from any app, or click Stop in the HUD or the red timer in the menu bar. Plain Esc stops a recording only while Shotnix is in front.
No. Shotnix transcribes your narration on your Mac with Apple's on-device speech recognition, and caption translation (macOS 15 and later) runs on your Mac too. Nothing is uploaded, and Shotnix has no cloud, account, or share links.
Yes. Switch a recording to 9:16, 4:5, or 1:1 and the frame pans to follow your cursor, while your captions and camera stay put.
Yes. Choose GIF in the export sheet: small, medium, or large, at 10 to 24 fps. You can also export straight to the clipboard.
Yes. Add background music that dips under your voice, put your logo or any image over the video, and add intro and outro title cards. Dissolves and dips to black go between clips.
Area, window, fullscreen, all displays at once, previous area, timed, and scrolling screenshots, plus OCR text capture and QR code scanning. Area, window, and fullscreen have shortcuts out of the box (⌘⇧4, ⌘⇧5, ⌘⇧3); start the rest from the menu bar or give them any shortcut in Settings → Shortcuts.
macOS requires it for any app that captures the screen. Camera and microphone access are asked for only when you turn them on, and Accessibility only if you record keyboard shortcuts. Everything stays on your Mac.
Official downloads are signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Shotnix checks for updates itself and installs signed releases in place.
